NRA
Whether you are new to the shooting sports and have never fired a shot, or are just looking to brush up on some skills, you can rest assured that our NRA BASIC classes are the absolute gold standard in safety. Our PISTOL, RIFLE, and SHOTGUN courses are CERTIFIED classes that follow a time tested curriculum that will allow you to explore and become intimately familiar with all common action types in each discipline through carefully supervised hands on training. Classes will cover safety rules, firearm operation, functions, understanding the action types, parts identification, ammunition, live fire, clearing malfunctions, cleaning and disassembly, and making an informed firearm purchase. All disciplines will focus on teaching the proper knowledge, skills, and attitude for safe gun handling as their core objective. If you have already purchased a firearm or have a certain type in mind and wish to take instruction on that particular gun only, you may wish to take an NRA FIRST STEPS course; which can be tailored to suit your needs. If you were to want a class that focused on only one action type, (such as a semi-automatic pistol or rifle) we can provide you with a dramatic variety of arms to find what works for your particular goals.

INSTRUCTOR
  • Candidates must possess and demonstrate a solid background in firearm safety and shooting skills acquired through previous firearm training and/or previous shooting experience. Instructor candidates must be intimately familiar with each action type in the discipline they wish to be certified.
  • Candidates will be required to demonstrate solid and safe firearms handling skills required to be successful during an instructor training course by completing pre-course questionnaires and qualification exercises administered by the NRA Appointed Training Counselor.
  • Candidates must satisfactorily complete an NRA Instructor Training Course in the discipline they wish to teach (e.g., NRA Basic Pistol Course), and receive the endorsement of the NRA Training Counselor conducting that training.

NRA Instructor courses are discipline specific. During the course, candidates will learn NRA policies and procedures, basic public speaking skills, training methodology, use of a training team and training aids, organizing a course, building a budget, and finally preparing to teach. In addition, candidates will be provided the appropriate lesson plans and basic course student packets. Role-playing is a major part of an instructor course; therefore, the minimum class size should be at least four candidates, with 10-12 candidates being ideal. Candidates take turns working in teams, actually conducting portions of the course to other candidates who portray basic students.

Instructor ratings are available to conduct all basic NRA courses

***Listed training is in Oswego unless otherwise noted. If you desire to hold training sessions at your location or your area, send email or call to make arrangements.  Instructor training needs minimum of 4 candidates. Basic Training and First Steps training can be held with one or more students any day of the week at your convenience - can also be spread over multiple days.  All instructor training consists of 2 parts - Part 1 is Basic Instructor Training(BIT). Once you complete BIT, you have 24 months to complete as many Part 2's as you want without repeating BIT. So you just attend Part 2. Part 2 is discipline specific.

DEFENSIVE / PRACTICAL
Are you ready to take it to the next level? Our INTRO and defensive courses of fire will build upon your gathered experience and awaken abilities you did not know were there. We will institute a fast paced series of drills and scenarios that will challenge both seasoned officers and civilian marksman alike. Courses are discipline specific, and will cover weapon optimization, presentation techniques, continuity of fire, stress reloads, ammunition selection, combat mindset, defeating armored threats, barricades, transitioning to a sidearm, and shooting on the move. All classes in these disciplines will focus on the engagement of multiple targets of varying distance while under stress. Let us show you what you are capable of, and teach you the proper methodology to build upon those skill sets on your own. (These are not basic or novice courses and will require the student to be proficient with their firearms as well as demonstrate a strong grasp of safety and range etiquette.) Live fire modules may require 300-500 rounds for course completion.

LOW-LIGHT

ANY MAN OR WOMAN THAT STUDIES TRENDS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL TELL YOU THAT NEARLY 70% OF ALL OFFICER RELATED SHOOTINGS, AND A FULL 2/3 OF LINE OF DUTY HOMICIDES OCCUR AFTER THE SETTING OF THE SUN.   DARKNESS IS A CERTAINTY….AN ELEMENT WE KNOW WE WILL FACE….AND WITH ITS APPROACH MARCHES A HOST OF NEW CHALLENGES.  GOING FURTHER BACK, A STUDY OF NATURE WILL CLEARLY SHOW THAT MANY APEX PREDATORS FIND SOLACE IN THE SHADOWS; CAPITALIZING ON THE DISADVANTAGES THAT DARKNESS BRINGS TO THEIR PREY.  AS NATURAL PREDATORS, HUMANS HAVE BECOME QUITE ADAPT AT HOLDING BACK THE DARK WITH ARTIFICIAL LIGHT.  THIS IS A SKILLSET BORNE OF THE FAILURES OF MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE OFTEN BEEN BORNE AS SACRIFICES TO THE DOCTRINE OF THEIR DAY.   IN APPARENT DEFIANCE OF HISTORY, WELL OVER 90% OF DEFENSIVE FIREARMS TRAINING TAKES PLACE IN WELL-LIT FACILITIES.  YOU KNOW WHAT YOU CAN DO, TRAIN TO APPLY YOUR SKILLS IN THE ENVIRONMENT WHERE YOU ARE MOST LIKELY TO NEED THEM.  IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURROUNDED BY IT, DARKNESS IS FAST ON ITS WAY TO DRIVE THE LIGHT FROM THE WORLD AROUND YOU.  ITS TIME YOU LEARNED THE TACTICS TO THRIVE WITHIN IT, AND WHEN NEEDED… TO DRIVE IT BACK.

No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always gotten there first, and is waiting for it.”
